If You Thought Solo: A Star Wars Story Needed A Snowball Fight Scene, You'll Love This New Clip

The upcoming Blu-ray release of Solo: A Star Wars Story will include a number of deleted scenes, all of which are potentially very interesting due to all the behind-the-scenes events that took place during the production. However, out of everything that could have theoretically been deleted from the film, I certainly wasn't expecting this. A new Star Wars video includes a brief deleted scene of Han and Chewie engaged in a snowball fight. Check it out.

The scene is from early in Solo: A Star Wars Story after the job that Han has joined Beckett for has gone bad. The three remaining team members, Beckett, Han, and Chewbacca, are trudging through the snow when Chewbacca hits Han in the back with a snowball. Han responds in kind and eventually, the two are wrestling on the ground and taking shots at each other with more snowballs before Beckett pipes up and gets them to quit it.

Needless to say, this scene is a little odd. It's only a few seconds long and contains nothing beyond this little snowball fight. There's no context for it at all. The Star Wars Show doesn't really explain it either, so it's not clear if this is actually the entire scene, or if there's more to it we'll have to wait for the Blu-ray to see. Perhaps there's an earlier moment where Han says or does something that results in Chewbacca deciding to hit him with a snowball. Perhaps there's an entirely separate scene earlier that explains it. Or maybe, Chewbacca at 190-years-old is just more playful than he is later on in his life.

The scene seems so out of context one wonders if it was ever really meant to be in the movie. It feels more like an outtake than it does a deleted scene. It's possible that maybe this moment was entirely improvised, and just turned out so well that it nearly made the movie. If it was a totally improvised scene, then the obvious next question becomes, was this actually shot by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and not Ron Howard? Lord and Miller are known as directors who allowed for multiple takes in order to try a variety of things and this certainly feels like something that might have been birthed by that process.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was certainly a movie with an overall lighter tone than most of the Star Wars movies we'd seen to that point, but this scene takes the silliness to a new level. Although, it honestly probably wasn't cut from the film for that reason. Solo ended up being a two hour and 15-minute long movie, and these few seconds were simply unnecessary.

We'll get to see if there's more to this scene, as well as several other deleted scenes, when Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on Digital tomorrow, followed by a Blu-ray release September 25.

As classy as this response is, it's certainly a bit bleak. It looks like no one involved in Solo: A Star Wars Story is expecting a sequel to the standalone film, although Jon Kasdan is keeping his fingers crossed for the future— especially for the characters introduced in Ron Howard's entry into the galaxy far, far away.

Captain America: Civil War Almost Had A Very Different End Battle

Captain America: Civil War Almost Had A Very Different End Battle

The Russos' Captain America: Civil War featured a fair number of narrative twists and turns, including the reveal that Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) murdered the hidden Winter Soldiers instead of using them to topple world governments. It was a major plot shift to make room for the big showdown between Cap (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), but it also turns out that there was originally a bigger plan for those badass Hydra assassins in the film's climax. Scott Adkins, who was supposed to play one of those soldiers, opened up in a recent interview and explained:

Well again they say, you know I was almost in Civil War. There was a part. The, uh, super soldiers, they were meant to be a bigger part of the movie at one point. And I met with the Russos about that, but they decided to lessen those parts and make it more about Captain America and Winter Soldier and Iron Man, right? That fight at the end. So that didn't happen. I was devastated at the time, but obviously they remembered me and Doctor Strange came up.

Talk about a drastically different version of the story. It sounds like in its original incarnation, Captain America: Civil War featured a bigger brawl between the heroes and the squad of highly-trained Winter Soldiers hidden at the Siberian outpost. That was an early version of the climax, but it eventually changed when the Russos decided to streamline the story and make it more about the hero-on-hero combat. However, as Scott Adkins noted during his appearance on the Empire podcast, he did eventually get to star as a henchman in Doctor Strange instead (which led to him kicking Benedict Cumberbatch in the chest), so he can't be too upset about the whole thing.

In the movie's final cut, the Winter Soldiers featured in Captain America: Civil War acted more like red herrings than real bad guys. They were teased as the main threat that Cap and Bucky needed to stop, and Iron Man showed up at the end of the movie to lend a hand. However, once the three heroes arrived at the Siberian facility, Zemo revealed that he actually killed all of the remaining soldiers, with the real intent of pitting the Marvel heroes against each other upon the realization that Bucky killed Tony's parents. You can check out that full scene, below.

Of course, at the end of the day, there's a strong case to be made that this was the right call. Captain America: Civil War is regarded as one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date by many fans, with a significant portion of the film's praise stemming from its more contained third act that pits heroes against each other instead of heroes against traditional villains. We don't know precisely what that original version of the story would've looked like, but Civil War definitely works well the way it is.

With all of that said, we will see where Cap, Bucky and Iron Man go next when The Avengers assemble once again for Avengers: Infinity War on April 27. Make sure to catch the latest MCU adventure when it finally debuts, and take a glance at our movie premiere guide to see what other big movies are coming this year!

The first was about his battles in World War II, the second was fighting his old friend Winter Soldier, and the third was Civil War and a battle with his former ally Iron Man. However, there were a ton of fun stories in Captain America's past to choose from for a lighter tone.

Earlier drafts of a third Captain America film, had Brock Rumlow, a.k.a. Crossbones, secretly working as a mercenary for the Red Skull (just like in the comics), but these ideas were scrapped and re-worked, when the filmmakers decided to follow the "Civil War" storyline.

Despite building a lot of Captain America: Civil War's pre-release hype around an end of Act II battle royal between almost every (earthbound) superhero the MCU has introduced up to that point, the majority of these guest stars are treated as such; with only a few minutes of overall screentime save for Iron Man and The Black Panther - both of whom have a direct connection to the main story.

What's Going On With Avatar's Villain, According To Stephen Lang

What's Going On With Avatar's Villain, According To Stephen Lang

We still don't know much about the plot of the upcoming Avatar sequels, but one puzzling thing we do know is that among the cast are a few actors whose characters were presumed dead at the end of the first film. Among those actors is Stephen Lang, who played the merciless Colonel Miles Quaritch. Stephen Lang recently shed a little light on what is going on with his villain in the Avatar sequels, saying:

I can tell you that we're deeply, deeply into the shooting. We're by no means finished. Quaritch, his place in this particular universe has gotten more complicated. And that's kind of the extent of his involvement in the world. The world begins to -- the world of Pandora -- begins to affect him quite deeply in ways that he either refused or it did not affect him. And it gets under his skin.

The Quaritch we saw in 2009 was very much a standard villain. He was inflexible in his views, and the only thing that really changed over the course of the movie was the amount of force he chose to exert to achieve his desired outcome. Based on Stephen Lang's comments to Slashfilm, it sounds like the villain will have a much different story in the Avatar sequels and one that actually digs into his psyche as a character.

In the first Avatar, Quaritch knew his job, his goals and the role he was meant to play on Pandora. As Stephen Lang says, his place has now gotten more complicated. And I have to imagine that that has something to do with the fact that he is no longer dead, even though he almost certainly was after taking a couple Na'vi arrows dipped in neurotoxin to the chest at the end of the first film.

We've been wondering since it was announced that Stephen Lang was returning how exactly Quaritch will come back from that. James Cameron hasn't revealed how he will come back, but has reminded everyone that this is a science fiction story. Couple that with Stephen Lang's comments here, and it sounds to me like Quaritch might be brought back by Pandora itself.

Stephen Lang says that Pandora will affect him deeply, and what happens gets under his skin. So I'm thinking that somehow, the biology on Pandora, which borders on magic, will revive Quaritch. But he will not be the man he once was, at least, not entirely. The only problem with this is that the first film showed Pandora and Eywa as sentient, so why would it bring back someone hell-bent on hurting it?

Quaritch has been described as the Darth Vader of the sequels, and James Cameron has said that the character will "evolve" over the course of the saga. Whatever brings Quaritch back may slowly take over him, and see him evolve into something that is more Pandora than man, much as Anakin became more machine than man.

This would definitely create an interesting internal struggle for the character, and that sounds like Stephen Lang is describing. In such a scenario, Quaritch would be brought back and be benefitting from the very thing he is trying to destroy. If whatever brings him back also confers upon him new powerful abilities, that could explain how he'll prove a foe for Jake Sully and his family over the course of 3-5 films.

Moviegoers still have a ways to go to find out. Principal photography is finished but as Stephen Lang says, the films are by no means completed. There is still a ton of work to be done on these blockbusters before they awaken from cryosleep in 2020 to dominate the box office.

Avatar 2 arrives on December 18, 2020. For movies arriving a little bit sooner, check out our 2019 Release Schedule.

James Cameron's Avatar was greatly enlivened by the presence of Stephen Lang (above). Millions of people saw the sci-fi adventure during its theatrical release and/or later on home video, but if you need a reminder, Lang portrayed Colonel Miles Quaritch, the leader of the military force on the planet Pandora.

What The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson Thinks About The Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

What The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson Thinks About The Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

The folks at Disney and Lucasfilm are still riding high off of the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but now it's time to also look ahead to the next Star Wars story on the horizon. Specifically, we are referring to Solo: A Star Wars Story, which recently dropped its first trailer for the whole world to see. The debut of the film's first preview spurred many opinions online, and it looks like The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has one of his own. In fact, Johnson opened up during a recent interview and voiced his immense praise and excitement for the film, explaining:

I knew it was coming, but I was still... I was clicking, clicking, clicking, 'yeah, yeah!' And I think it looks so beautiful. I can't wait for people to see more of the film -- it's so fun, it's so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it.

Rian Johnson has never made a secret of the fact that he's a full-blown Star Wars fan. His ability to dive into the lore and clap back at fans made that abundantly clear. In that regard, despite his status as a Star Wars insider, it sounds like he was clicking the refresh button like many of us and waiting to see what the trailer had in store. To his delight, he told Comicbook.com at the AARP Movies for Grownup Awards that the trailer offered up all of the humor, excitement, and charm that he wanted to see.

These comments from Rian Johnson may go a long way towards instilling confidence in the project for some, as Solo: A Star Wars Story has left some fans with quite a bit of apprehension and uneasiness. The production of the Star Wars spinoff was fundamentally changed last summer when Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the film, and the entire movie went in a different direction with the subsequent hiring of Ron Howard to take their place.

It also arguably helps Solo: A Star Wars Story to get the Rian Johnson seal of approval when we consider the nature of his long-term involvement in the series moving forward. The Looper director dipped his toe into the water with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but he will soon go all in on an entirely new trilogy of his very own. He's now one of the go-to Star Wars authorities for many fans, and his satisfaction with the trailer for Han Solo's movie may bode very well for the project.

Now that Rian Johnson and the rest of the world have had a chance to see the official trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, we will have to wait and see what else Ron Howard and the film's cast have up their sleeves when the film finally hits theaters later this year on May 25!
