Kevin Feige Says A Spider-Man And Venom Movie Is 'Likely' But Up To Sony

It's no secret that comic book movies are everywhere, as various studios compete for box office supremacy with their respective cinematic universes. Characters from Marvel's Spider-Man comics have had a particularly fascinating life onscreen, split between various studios. And things got only more complicated once Peter Parker was adopted by the MCU.

Sony has historically had the rights to Spider-Man and his villains, with two separate franchises happening in the 2000's. But the studio made a deal with Marvel in 2015, allowing Spider-Man to make his way to the massive shared universe, starting with Captain America: Civil War. Sony saw success with Venom, so all eyes are if/when the two characters might crossover.

CinemaBlend's Sean O'Connell recently asked Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige during their conversation about Spider-Man: Far From Home's contents, and the exec said:

I think probably it's up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don't know what their plans are for another Venom or if theyre doing that. But it seems likely at some point.

Well, that seems pretty cut and dry. Kevin Feige seems to think the ball is in Sonys' court, and depending on what they want the future of Venom to look like. Will we get a direct sequel, or some type of team-up movie with Tom Holland's Spider-Man? Only time will tell.

CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell got the chance to speak with Kevin Feige at the Spider-Man: Far From Home junket, along with the film's cast (look out for more content on its way!) The MCU's Spider-Man has quickly become one of the biggest fan favorites in the shared universe, and Venom was one of the surprising sleeper hits of 2018.

Sony's villain-centric movie ended up making a whopping $855 million, all but guaranteeing a Venom sequel sometime in the future. The movie surpassed poor critical performance and really resonated with audiences, and didn't suffer from taking itself too seriously. Given the comedic nature of the MCU's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom, they probably would have some solid chemistry.

Unfortunately, Kevin Feige doesn't seem to think there are any real plans to make this happen. Feige maintained it was up to Sony to decide what they want to do with the studio's symbiote-centric brand. You'd think the head of Marvel Studios would be privy to any potential deals, so his comments aren't necessarily encouraging.

Still, no one would have thought that the deal around Spider-Man would have been possible ahead of it happening. Sony and Marvel Studios have shown their ability to collaborate before, so it's not totally out of the question. And with Phase Four of the MCU also a mystery, the general public is largely in dark regarding the future of the superhero genre.

5 Questions About Captain Marvel We Want Answered In Avengers: Endgame

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Captain Marvel**.**

Captain Marvel is finally here, and that means weve had a chance to finally see the hero that we all expect is going to be the key to victory in the forthcoming Avengers: Endgame. While the movie did answer a few interesting questions that weve had about the MCU, like what happened to Nick Furys eye, it also created a bunch of new questions for us to ponder.

On the plus side, we dont necessarily have to wait too long to get answers to those questions because Avengers: Endgame is only a few short weeks away, but while that movie may be focused on saving half of all life in the galaxy, we certainly hope it leaves time to answer these burning questions about the movie we just saw.

Where The Hell Has Captain Marvel Been?At the end of the movie, our hero leaves Earth with apparently two major goals in mind. She plans to help the Skrulls find a new home where they can live in peace, and to take the fight to the Kree, with her eye on ending the galactic control the Kree have been attempting. And then, as far as we know, shes never seen again on Earth until post-Decimation.

Now certainly, fighting a one-woman war against the Kree is going to be a time consuming endeavor, but its been two decades since the events of Captain Marvel, and not only has Carol Danvers not returned to Earth, shes been so far off the radar that nobody knows anything about her. We see Ronan the Accuser take a particular interest in Danvers, but when we see Ronan later in Guardians of the Galaxy, hes focusing on entirely different things, when clearly he hasnt killed Captain Marvel yet. When Ronan attacks Xandar, where the hell is the lady who made it her mission to defeat the Kree?

Did Captain Marvel Cause The Kree/Xandarian Peace Treaty?There is one possible answer to the above question, but if true, it also raises other questions. Is Captain Marvel the ultimate reason that Roan the Accuser goes rogue in Guardians of the Galaxy and works works with Thanos. When we first meet Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy, we learn that he's no longer part of the Kree collective, but is instead working alone. The Kree and the planet Xandar have signed a peace treaty, but Ronan doesn't agree with it. The war between these two has apparently raged for generations, causing the deaths of many in Ronan's family. It's never made clear why the Kree have made peace now, based on the way we see them in Captain Marvel, they don't seem like a race that makes peace easily.

However, if the Nova Corps were to get some additional assistance by somebody like Captain Marvel, it's possible that could have thrown the balance of the war off in such a way that the Kree had no choice but to make peace. Of course, if all this were true, it wouldn't explain why Carol Danvers didn't show up to help at the end of that movie when Ronan attacked Xandar.

What Happened To Maria And Monica?One of the biggest questions we had after Avengers: Infinity War involved taking stock of the MCU and figuring out who might still be alive following The Snap. Anybody that we didnt see on screen in the final minutes of that movie has no clear fate, and thats a lot of people that fans care about. Captain Marvel added two more, Maria and Monica Rambeau. Carol Danvers' friend and fellow pilot was one of the highlights of the new movie, and her daughter was also instantly endearing.

Did one or both of them fall victim to Thanos or are they still with us? While the post-credits scene of Captain Marvel showed us Carol Danvers hasnt aged much, likely due to her powers, Maria and Monica would be 20 years older, meaning Monica is now an adult. As comic book fans know, she potentially has a superhero life in front of her as well, so the question of their fate, both now and in the future, is potentially important.

Is Goose Still Around?If theres one thing that pretty much everybody who saw Captain Marvel can agree on, its that Goose is just the best. Say what you will about the movie itself, but Goose the cat is getting rave reviews from every corner, and so we have to wonder, is the little guy still around?

Goose would be something over 20 years old, which is damn old for a cat and would mean thats unlikely, but as we know, Goose isnt actually a cat. He's an alien called a flerken that simply resembles a cat. Exactly what the lifespan of the flerken is, we dont really know. It appears that Nick Fury has kept Goose around, which isnt good news since Fury is now gone. Whos going to feed Goose? Even if the little fuzzball has survived this long, he may have been dusted himself, which is just too heartbreaking to think about.

How Did Mar-Vell Get The Tesseract?We know more about the history of the Tesseract, a.k.a. the Space Stone, then we do any of the other Infinity Stones. We know it was being hidden in Norway in the 1940s when the Red Skull obtained it. Captain America then defeated the Skull and the stone was lost, along with Cap himself, but Howard Stark recovered the Tesseract while looking for Steve Rogers. The next time we saw it, it was in the hands of SHIELD, so it appeared that Stark handed it over to his bosses at the SSR, which later became SHIELD, and they'd had it all this time.

But now Captain Marvel has revealed that may not actually be the case. Somehow, Mar-Vell got her hands on the Tesseract and used it to create a lightspeed engine. By the end of the film, the Tesseract is in the hands of SHIELD, or at least Nick Fury, but exactly how Mar-Vell got it is still a mystery, Did Mar-Vell get it, or take it, from Howard Stark at some point in the past? Did she steal it from the SSR/SHIELD? At this point we don't know.

At this point, we have no idea what's next for the MCU after this year's films wrap up, which means we have no clue when we might get an answer to any of these questions unless they're actually part of Avengers: Endgame. Could we have to wait multiple years to learn what happened to Goose? Please don't let that be so.

Why Annabelle Comes Home Is Very Much A Homecoming For The Conjuring Universe

In the last six years, The Conjuring Universe has become one of the most successful active franchises in Hollywood. It all started when James Wans The Conjuring turned out to be a massively huge hit in the summer of 2013, and since then the brand has expanded to include multiple spin-off series, which have actually mostly performed as well or better than the core titles.

As the franchise has continued, its expanded in interesting ways and gone to some exciting new places and its in recognition of this that Gary Daubermans upcoming Annabelle Comes Home holds a special place the brands direction. It turns out the title has a semi-double meaning, as in addition to the movie featuring a plot that sees the titular doll come to live in the Warren house, its also seen by the filmmakers as a homecoming of sorts for the entire Conjuring Universe.

This was a sentiment shared by producer Peter Safran during an interview late last year when I had the chance to visit the set of what was then only called Annabelle 3:

The idea bringing it back to the Warren family was something that we've been toying with for a while. We had the Perrons, we had the Hodgsons, we took it all away to Romania a totally different vibe and feel for The Nun. And we just liked the idea of bringing it closer to home, back to ordinary people and extraordinary circumstances, which was kind of the touchstone for it. And it just really made sense.

To fill in the gaps for the uninitiated, The Conjuring started the franchise with a story that actually spent a fair amount of time in the Warren home, in addition to following an investigation of the relatively-local Perron household. But the movies have slowly moved away from that ever since. Annabelle was really only a slight crawl away as a prequel story with a direct link-up featured at the end, but then The Conjuring 2 took Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmigas Ed and Lorraine Warren to England for the infamous Enfield Poltergeist case with the Hodgson clan. Annabelle: Creation then took audiences back nearly 20 years before the events of The Conjuring; and then The Nun doubled down on both elements of setting by not only going further back in time (by three years), but also by featuring events primarily set in the Vatican and Romania.

Its been six years since audiences have seen any legitimately spooky action inside of the Warrens house, but Annabelle Comes Home will break that streak when its released this summer. Set over the course of one night, the story centers on Ed and Lorraines daughter, Judy (McKenna Grace), as she spends the night with a babysitter (Madison Iseman) the night Annabelle is brought into households notorious artifact museum. Unfortunately for them, its evil winds up having a very strong influence over the other objects in the room, unleashing all kinds of terrors.

Further discussing the approach of bringing the action back to the Warrens, Peter Safran explained that there has long been a creative curiosity when it comes to the aforementioned artifact museum, and Annabelle Comes Home will finally be the movie that sees the potential there explored. Plus, he added, its an opportunity to directly follow-up on the very first case that audiences were introduced to in the first Conjuring. Said the producer,

We always loved the idea of the artifact room being the potential source of more stories. The idea of actually setting a film around that was something, again, that we had in our mind for a while, and Gary [Dauberman] and James [Wan], and myself just thought this was the opportunity that the third Annabelle movie is the opportunity to really raise the stakes. And that was it. Also the opening scene of The Conjuring is so iconic when it opens up on the half face of Annabelle, we just always liked the idea of, what happened after they left there? We see them taking the doll, what happens? It was actually something other people had asked us in the past as well. We just thought we will explore that story.

There will still be plenty more opportunities for The Conjuring Universe to explore new cities, countries, and time periods, as there are multiple projects actively in development, but Annabelle Comes Home is specifically being made as the film that brings us full circle.

The directorial debut of Gary Dauberman who previously wrote the scripts for Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, and The Nun Annabelle Comes Home is scheduled to freak out audiences this summer with its June 28th release. While the DC Extended Universe is continuing ahead with movies like Shazam!, Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984, one mystery still looming over the franchise is the future of Ben Affleck's Batman. Though Warner Bros hasn't officially announced that Affleck is leaving the Caped Crusader behind, reports continue to come out claiming that Affleck is done as Batman, and that a new actor will don the cape and cowl for Matt Reeves' Batman movie. When asked about these rumors, Affleck's DCEU costar, Ezra Miller, the man bringing The Flash to life on the big screen, responded:

When there are these leaks of information---or however people get stuff---it's pretty unreliable.

Ezra Miller's comment was also in reference to the rumors that Henry Cavill is hanging up his Superman cape, which Warner Bros denied. The DCEU is getting pieces in order for some of its other heroes, but as far as Batman and Superman are concerned, it's hard to tell where we stand with those two. Miller's cagey comment to Playboy suggests maybe we should take Bruce Wayne's advice to Clark Kent in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to heart: "Don't believe everything you hear, son."

No doubt Ezra Miller can't say anything more than that, otherwise he'd get yelled at by DC and Warner Bros executives. Still, it does make one wonder if Miller actually knows something we don't, and that there are indeed plans for Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill to return to the DCEU, or if this is just a form of damage control.

Looking specifically at Ben Affleck, rumors about him retiring as Batman have been circulating about for over a year, and have gained steam following the release of Justice League. It's been reported that Matt Reeves' Batman movie will feature a younger actor playing the Gotham City vigilante, rather than pick back up with Affleck's version. When we last left off with Affleck's version of Batman, he was getting ready to turn the abandoned Wayne Manor into the Justice League's headquarters, so it seemed like he had a bright future ahead of him. Well, as bright as one can be who looms in the shadows and broods a lot.

Even ignoring the personal issues that Ben Affleck has been dealing with, purely from a scheduling standpoint, he has a lot on his plate. Affleck was shooting Triple Frontier earlier this year, and among the movies he has coming up include The Accountant 2, The-Has-Been and Torrance. So it would make sense bringing in someone else if Affleck simply doesn't have the time, but again, we remain in the dark on what's in store. Matt Reeves hasn't been much help clearing things up either.

As for Ezra Miller, his future with the DCEU is slightly more cemented. Following his cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, and his full debut in Justice League, Miller has been attached to lead a standalone Flash movie. However, Miller is also busy playing Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts film series, and last month it was reported that in order to accommodate Miller shooting Fantastic Beasts 3, Warner Bros has pushed production on The Flash back to late 2019, which means it probably won't hit theaters until 2021 at the earliest.
